Random Thought

OK, I got this magazine in the mail a couple days ago, but just took the time to actually see what it was last night. They advertise "making luxury affordable" - which of course means that they still charge you outrageous prices, they just let you pay it in smaller installments. This, to me, is more trouble than it's worth anyway even if you don't think about the fact that they (like everyone else in America) are encouraging you to spend more money than you have. The thing that really caught my attention, however, was not the flat screen TVs and computers and living room furniture and mattresses and jewelry. . .
Like I said, I looked at this thing last night. It wasn't until I picked it up to throw it away a few minutes ago though, that I realized some of the things I had seen listed! Would you believe they have purses and sunglasses for sale on payment plans?!? This to me is just wrong! I've thought this whole craze was nuts before, but the idea of making a $15/mo. payment on your sunglasses just kills me! And make-up! I'm sorry! If you have the money to blow $80 - $300+ on make-up and sunglasses (and you're stupid enough to do it) fine, but payment plans?!? . . .
K, I'll climb down off my box now. Told you it was random!

I agree whole-heartedly but I think it gets worse yet that everyone wants to sit around and blame the gvt. for the bad economy. Sure the gvt. & president might make some decisions that affect the economy but if people weren't spending above their means and buying more and more on credit and with credit cards, would we really be in the mess we are? Can we really hold the gvt. solely responsible for our insatiable desire for bigger and better and more and more and keeping up with everyone around us? Maybe I should get on MY soapbox about that on my blog. :) I do agree that's pretty ridiculous!

It is interesting to me, I was listening to a Crown Financial program just this afternoon and they said Larry wrote a book years ago something about the "financial earthquake" that was sure to hit the US, he thought sooner than now but all the same. He URGED couples, families, churches to get debt free and save a bit of money. People laughed him off then. Guess they aren't laughing now! We so often pray for contentment, I guess that sounds silly but we really have it good compared to sooo many people around the world, yet it is so easy to see what you DON'T have.

I heard that Walmart was going to try to keep their boat afloat by pushing toys and pet stuff. If they can't get you to buy it for yourself, then they probably can get you to buy it for your kids or pets. It has become an outrage. You should see the commercials that they put on KIDS tv. I HATE commercials. They tell you NEED something that is so ridiculous. And the kids especially believe it. It's one of my soap boxes too.

Yeah Rach, I won't get going again, but I also pray for contentment! I look at co-workers (who I'm sure aren't spending wisely, but. . .) and missionaries and go, "We have these things laying around cluttering up the place! They value the little they can get their hands on!" I don't consider myself rich by ANY means, but. . .

Yeah!!! You know we had a kid a work, and (I don't mean to cut him down) common sense was not something he opperated on at all... hardly. He bought this $2000 TV and was making a payment plan on it. ARE YOU SERIOUS? If you would have exercized a little patience you could have saved up the two grand and bought the TV outright... now you will pay $3500-$4000 once the interest is done sucking money out of your pockets. Where's my soapbox???
