Open Season

Today, April 25, 2009 marks "open season" for two things. First, since it's the first day we've had HOT summer-like weather, it kicked off garage sale season in our area. And secondly, our favorite little ice cream joint, Riverside, opened for the season today. See, here's the story. Since our guys had to work today (normally they don't work Saturdays) and today was opening day for Riverside, we decided to make it a girls lunch - Mamma, Joy, Heidi, and I. It was a simple enough plan. UNTIL. . . Yep, there it was - a garage sale sign - and just down the road from my house! Maybe it was the weather or maybe it was the fever, but we stopped even though there wasn't a great deal of stuff. The good thing was that even though there wasn't a lot of stuff, what they did have was nice stuff and "priced to sell"!! Of course we hadn't planned to need cash, so some of us (not me :-) had to run to the bank for cash then return for their loot! I mean she bought so much, that the people closed their sale when she left! I'm joking - not about how much stuff she bought, just about them closing up! :-) Then we were on our way to go get lunch but. . . yep another one! This one was pretty well right on our way too! I mean it might have been down a side street that we've never been on before, but it was pretty well on our way. :-) So, here we go again. Most of the items were odds and ends and a little dated - nothing really caught our attention. . . until someone (who had apparently been there earlier) came and asked if she still had that Coach bag. THAT caught my attention! Now I'm not into this spending outrageous amounts of money for bags and things, but I DO know a brand like that when I hear it, AND I DO like totes and purses just as well as the next girl (more totes than purses). After that, I decided to look a little closer at the table covered with purses and bags. Much to my delight, there were several cute ones. Also, much to my delight, several of them were good brands with tags still on them! By this point, we're all faint from lack of lunch, but when they took us to the ER for resuscitation, we arrived in stile with cute bags! :-) Totally a joke about the ER! So, we made our final selections (and then some that the lady threw in for a set price! :-) and. . . told her we'd be back when we had gotten more cash! :-) You'd think we'd learn! After leaving the second and final sale, we decided to get lunch before we returned. We went to Riverside (which just happens to be owned by my boss' sister) and had our famous order of chicken sandwiches with lots of banana peppers (they know us for that!) then went back to pick up the rest of our loot. After all that, we had to go shopping for all the necessary stuff like groceries, etc. But even that wasn't such a chore after our "personal well-being" had been taken care of! :-) Below are some pictures of the four of us at lunch and then three of my four pieces of loot. The fourth was a 5x7 picture frame that I used to put the ice cream cone (below) in to give to Lisa down at Riverside.

Sounds like you had such a fun/exciting day.=) The weather was perfect for such events.

I'll ditto coach things.. my sister went to NYC recently and got me one, and I absolutely love it.

I can't lie, I'm kinda' jealous. Looks like you had so much fun and it makes me really miss everyone... and I can't believe you got a coach purse! We actually have a coach store in our mall now. Thankfully I don't have a weakness for purses. I've never been in the store but I can pretty much guess what things cost in there. The pictures are such fun pictures. They would be perfect (and easy) pics. to get "someone" back into scrapping who hasn't done it in awhile and complained at our last sister's crop that they didn't know how to do it anymore. And one more thing - once again I was wowed by your drawing. Kevin happened to be sitting beside me and was equally impressed. And they lived happily ever after - that's the end of this book. :)

Well, I could just ramble and ramble but I will try to contain myself. :-) First hoorah for pictures!!! She remembered her camera, I am delighted! Seriously, really did enjoy the pictures.
Then I am just laughing (I guess finding myself amusing)because I am thinking John would have been delighted to be along on your yard selling adventure (but you would have had to fight him off for the bags I'm afraid and that would have led to bad family relations.) John is sure we need to do more yard selling and I am not opposed to the idea but when it is hot and you chase down some "promising" sale that ends up having nothing and it is old and yuck and over priced I get discouraged easily. :) Yard sales are different here.
I feel like such a snot to snatch up the great name brand bags but I just got a Nine West at the Salvation Army that looked like it had never been used and it was SOOO cool looking. I really must clean out my stash though, my mother would be appalled.

Yes Rach! I not only REMEMBERED my camera, but remembered to USE it!! And yeah, I'm normally not too into garage saling (especially by myself). I guess that makes me a snot, but... Also, for all of Mamma's attempted self control, I've discovered in the past few years how actually normal she is in her love for bags!

Beck and Aim, I must clear things up. I did NOT buy a coach. I think there was only the one that the other person bought. I did get a $30 Liz Claiborne and the other one (Isaac Mizrahi) both with tags still on them for $5!

OH! Oh! I loved the pictures but it made me very sad that I wasn't along to find some wonderful bags and enjoy a beautiful girls luncheon. Those were some great pics of all of you.

I like the new addition to side line photos from your recent pizza hut outing. I've been on your site a couple times since our conversation today, and it wasn't until now.... that I thought, "Wait, new pictures.. let me find them;)" Very cute, silly and romantic;) Nothing wrong with that!

Good times are always worth it.
